Young Person’s Residential Support Worker – High Wycombe

Could you bring compassion, empathy and sensitivity to support young people in care? Due to an expansion in service, new opportunities are available in a children’s home in High Wycombe.

Bringing your resilient and patient approach to deal with challenging behaviours, as part of a team you will support 3 to 4 teenagers with social, emotional behavioural difficulties. Using a therapeutic approach your role as a Residential Support Worker will involve:

  • Working 3 long days and two sleep in shifts per week, including one day of a weekend – 2 weekends in 3.
  • Promoting the children’s physical and emotional well-being.
  • Encouraging and joining in with the children in going out and taking part in a wide range of activities.
  • Motivating the young people’s efforts in attaining their goals.
  • Dealing with challenging behaviour in a firm but fair way – acting as a surrogate parent to promote positive behaviour.
  • Empathising, listening and guiding.
  • Being involved in mealtimes and keeping the house clean and tidy

The organisation provides great training which includes a two week induction and support & funding to attain NVQs in residential childcare and management. There are also lots of career progression opportunities within this region from Senior Support Worker through to House Manager.

Candidates are required to have:

  • Previous experience of working with children/young people with challenging behaviour or youth work.
  • A full, manual driving licence.
  • A NVQ / QCF level 3 in residential childcare is desirable, if not held the organisation will pay for you to attain this qualification.
